Cape Buffalo pair

60 x 200 cm, oil on linen

The Cape buffalo, rough and archaic, sees very badly. If he picks up our scent and still seeks our gaze, he does it from above-just because he sees so badly-but that doesn't bother him, he knows the rough direction. When he wants to, we are finished - mostly he grazes peacefully on. The Cape buffalo is one of the few mammals that can take on a lion - even a pride of lions. Courage without end. Admirable.
