Painting for SHARKPROJECT.ORG
Start of project: “Sharks in oil for STOP FINNING“
Subject: Exhibition in support of sharks; a major charity project
Fiona Hernuss is strongly committed to burning subjects, and this one is flaming! The gruesome butchering of sharks worldwide has to end before it is too late. Over 200 million sharks are brutally murdered annually simply for their highly sought fins, which are chopped off, one by one, from the live sharks. The still-living sharks, with no fins, are thrown back into the sea and left to drown in unimaginable agony and pain. This sadly very lucrative procedure has already caused a huge percentage of the shark populations to disappear. Some shark species are already wiped out forever. Since it takes so long for sharks to mature to reproductive age (some sharks mature at the age of 20 years and can live to become 70 years old), they can not recover without our immediate help. We must understand that this planet needs sharks to keep the oceans intact. We also need to learn that shark meat can be poisonous and not at all ‘cool’ to eat.

Mission MERLIN
Start of project: August 2010 - open end
Subject: Mission Merlin
This project was initiated to point out alternatives, specifically the local animal shelter, when acquiring a pet. In this case, the shelter is Vienna, Austria’s Wiener Tierschutzverein. The WTV was founded in 1846 by the famous poet and writer, Ignaz Castelli. Mission Merlin is here to support the WTV and bring a fresh, alternative breeze in the form of portrait paintings of animals that currently live in the shelter.
