Fiona Hernuss paints unique portraits of animals. Her great talent is her capability for ‘capturing’ the spirit of the individual animal she paints. She consistently and masterfully offers a place for the essence of the animal to literally ‘appear’ in her paintings. This may sound more than a little strange, but it is really the way it seems. Hernuss describes this gift as, “It is as if I were, yes, almost pilot-controlled when I paint these portraits. They even seem to paint themselves after a certain point.” This certain point is reached after the basic foundation and structure have been painted. After this, the animal’s spirit takes over, and with every brushstroke the painting seems to come alive in a wonderful, enchanting way.
Nowadays it is unrealistic to be able to spend hours and days with a model. Hardly anyone has the time, patience or means. There is often the possibility of only one session for studying the animal. Hernuss has adapted to this modern situation and can quickly and precisely analyze and record all information necessary for a successful and true portrait of the animal.
Painting commissions of animals are accepted according to individual agreement and by appointment. Commissions are generally possible throughout Europe. Other locations may be possible by individual arrangement and if time allows.
